School Curriculum

West End House works with secondary schools to bring drama and acting workshops to classes such as first year, junior cert, transition year and LCA students.

1st year

These workshops focus on introducing students to performance and drama techniques. The sessions are delivered in a fun and interactive environment with a strong emphasis on group learning. Participants will gain a better understanding of themselves in a creative environment.

Transition Year

These workshops are designed to equip students with skills that are transferrable to a multitude of areas. Students will devlop performance and public skills as well as behind the scenes work, such as Lighting, Sound, Design, Directing and Producing.

LCA

This programme is project-based and developed in a modular style. Each module focuses on a specific objective, in performance for stage or screen. Students will develop a product by the end of the year which will showcase their work.

Shakespeare Sessions

These workshops focus on bringing the Shakespearean text to life in a fun and interactive way. Students are encouraged to analyse the play from the viewpoint of staging and character development. They will be encouraged to perform scenes in a safe, process-based environment, with a strong emphasis on understanding plot and storytelling.

Drama Workshops

These workshops look at the craft of acting and performance in a general way. Participants can engage with performance techniques in a group setting with a strong emphasis on the ensemble. The sessions are fun and interactive where the importance is on participation and engagement.

Make a play

This workshop can be developed over a number of sessions. The participants will develop ideas through a process of improvisation and devising techniques. This work is then scripted, designed and adapted for performance. The finished play will be showcased by the participants of the workshops.
