An introduction to Acting with Charlie Hughes

This course consists of 10 acting classes and is designed to give participants a basic foundation in Acting skills. Suitable for all ages and levels of acting experience, it is ideal for those who would like gain an introduction to the craft of acting. Students will get a taste of skills including improvisation, movement and voice work.

West End House Players Ensemble (returning students)

This course is delivered by our Senior Tutor Charlie Hughes. The course consists of 10 acting classes and is designed as a follow up class for those who have already completed two or more acting terms with Charlie, to further develop acting skills. This is a class that is ideal for those who would like to continue their exploration of the craft of acting as an ensemble, with the aim of rehearsing a piece for public performance at the end of the course. Students will learn the ins and outs of producing a piece of theatre all the way from page to stage, focusing not only on acting but other essential skills required to do so such as casting, set, stage direction, props, rehearsal and marketing your piece. Suitable for all ages over 18yrs.

Acting for Screen

This programme consists of 10 acting classes and will include a Master Class with West End House School of Arts Founder, Michael Fassbender. This course is designed for students with or without any experience. Students will study, rehearse, perform and review scenes, making great use of our state of the art Cinema Room in West End House – students will build a portfolio of clips of their own work as well as participating in a performed reading/screening of their filmed scene at the end of term showcase.

  • Self-taping & auditioning

Playwriting with Fiona Doyle

Irish Playwright Fiona Doyle will bring a brand new course to West End House School of Arts this September! ‘Playwriting with Fiona Doyle’ will take place for 10 weeks from September 25th. Fiona will cover a range of exciting writing techniques and topics including but not limited to;

  • Monosyllabic words & Rhythm (the basics)
  • Stichomythia, Asides & Direct Address
  • Activity & Image, Exits/Entrances
  • Silences & Time Pressure
  • Verbatim, Mosaic & Letters/phonecalls
  • Facets of Character & Vulnerability.

This course has been designed by Fiona specifically for West End House to coincide with her time here as our in house Writer in Residence! This course will be perfect for anyone interested in the world of theatre, playwriting and creating your own work. Suitable for beginners as well as those with past writing experience. This course is fpr adults aged 18 and over.

 

About Fiona Doyle

Fiona’s work in theatre includes Coolatully (winner of the 2014 Papatango New Writing Prize) at the Finborough Theatre in London, and for Mead Theatre Lab in Washington DC; Deluge (winner of the 2014 Eamon Keane Full-Length Play Award) and The Strange Death of John Doe (2018 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize Finalist) at Hampstead Theatre Downstairs; The Annihilation of Jessie Leadbeater (ALRA); The Ceasefire Babies (NT Connections) and Ms Y (short) as part of the Young Vic’s Five Plays. Fiona has been the recipient of the Irish Theatre Institute’s Phelim Donlon Playwright’s Bursary and Residency Award in association with the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, a CTC ‘Space to Think’ residency, a Cill Rialaig Artist residency, a Peggy Ramsay Foundation grant, and a MacDowell Colony Fellowship (subsequently being selected for honorary designation as a Stanford Calderwood Fellow for 2018). She has been on attachment at the National Theatre Studio and is currently under commission to the Everyman Theatre. For the screen, she has original ideas in development with Samson Films and RTE. Her theatre work is published by Nick Hern Books and Methuen Drama.

One to One sessions

These sessions are custom designed to suit the writing or acting needs of the individual participant. Students can develop their acting through personalized training methods, audition techniques and self-taping for the industry. Sessions will be available in person or online.

Price: 65 Euro one hour / 95 Euro two hours
